The iRobot company has been manufacturing robotic equipment since 1990. Over the years, it has released several generations of robot vacuum cleaners and significantly advanced the technology of robotics.
One of its very first series of robots – the 500 series – has already been discontinued, but its receivers from the 600 series are still being successfully sold.
Today we`ll compare Roomba 614 and Roomba 690 and find out which model is suitable for your conditions.
Roomba 614 a Low-cost Robot Vacuum Vleaner, Lacks Wi-Fi
Like all Roomba robots, this specimen uses a three-stage cleaning system – a side brush, a central rubber and bristle brush, and suction.
Brushes can be easily removed and cleaned of hair, pile and various minor details.
Rigid bristles on the brushes and a suction force of 600 Pa collect both large debris and hair and pet fur.
The dust bin has a volume of 300 ml. 1800 mAh battery provides 60 minutes of work and needs 3.5 hours of recharging.
The filter included in the kit belongs to the category of AeroVac filters, which purify the air by 85%.
The device itself has a round shape and 17×18 x 5 inches dimensions. It weighs 11.1 pounds and is made mainly in black.
For navigation, the robot uses iAdapt 1.0 technology and several types of sensors (infrared and cliff ones). Thus, it receives information about the size of the room, its location and the location of obstacles.
iRobot Roomba 614 works autonomously and determines the trajectory of movement. First, the robot makes an overview of the room and identifies cleaning sites. Next, the vacuum cleaner moves along the walls, then begins spiral movements throughout the room and continues them until it vacuums the entire surface.
Dirt Detect sensors inform the robot about the most contaminated areas. In such cases, the vacuum cleaner passes through this place several times. This model also uses idle wheel scrolling so as not to get entangled in small elements and electrical wires.
All robot control is carried out mechanically by pressing buttons on the top panel of the device. Management through the mobile application and voice assistants isn`t supported in this device.

Roomba 690 Perfect for Pet Owners
Roomba 690 has a round case made of black plastic. It weighs 7.8 pounds and has 13 in. width and 3.7 in. height that allow it to come to even the most hard-to-reach places. The case is also protected by the special shockproof bumper to save both furniture and the device.
iRobot Roomba 690 works on three levels each of which is provided by the separate cleaning element. This is called the three-stage cleaning system.
- On the first stage, the side brush cleans the floor along the baseboards and in the corners and sweeps all the dirt to the central brush.
- This dual multi-surface central brush is the second stage. Its elements rotate in opposite directions and put the garbage into the bin. The Auto-Adjust Cleaning Head helps adapt to the floor height to promote perfect cleaning.
- And finally, the third stage is represented by the suction port. This suction directs all debris into the 600 ml dust bag.
The maximum suction power on this model is 600 Pa. Dust in the air is also kept by the robot AeroVac filter.
To start the robot press the “Clean” button on the device body, use special iRobot HOME application or voice assistants. Mechanical management is necessary in the case of local cleaning mode.
The app allows you to turn the device on and off, track its location and work, form a cleaning route, week schedule, etc. And if you`re busy, you can always just say the robot what you want it to do.
Roomba robots have always been noted for their excellent navigation. The 690 runs with the help of the iAdapt 1.0 technology, infrared sensors, height detectors, and Dirt Detect function.
All these tips simultaneously scan space and give the device information about its location, dirty spots, stairs or other falls and obstacles on the way. The vacuum always knows where its charging base is, so it can recharge and then continue the work right from the previous place.
The charging time is 180 minutes. And after these three hours, the 2130 mAh Li-ion battery will last for 60 minutes.
During the vacuuming robot uses one of the cleaning and movement modes. There is automatic (for the whole dwelling) and local cleaning (for the separate spots). You can also restrict the vacuuming space with the help of virtual walls. The main types of movement are spiral and along the walls.

Differences between Roomba 614 and Roomba 690
However, unfortunately, Roomba 614 is much inferior to its rival and this is especially noticeable when comparing the differences.
- Firstly, the Roomba 690 is smaller and lighter, which gives it an advantage in maneuverability and cleaning.
- Secondly, the 614 has a twice smaller dust collector, which means that the user will have to empty it twice as often.
- Thirdly, the first model of our comparison does not have virtual wall technology, that is, it requires more attention during cleaning. Otherwise, the robot will enter a territory where cleaning is not needed or undesirable.
- Fourth, the only control available to you in the 614 is a few buttons on the device’s panel. You can`t control the robot remotely, monitor its operation and plan schedule in the way you can with Roomba 690.
Which one to choose?
Our comparative review showed that both robots have a number of advantages. They are great for pet owners and people living in small dwellings.
However, choosing between these two models, it is better to give preference to the Roomba 690, as it offers more options.
